Developing and embedding an impact strategy

Agrimetrics's vision is for a sustainable and resilient agrifood sector powered by data. The leadership team are ambitious about the social change they can drive, and were keen to embed it at the heart of their business.

We began with an interactive workshop to develop a "Theory of Change" which reflects Agrimetrics's ambitions and demonstrates how their activities will enable them to balance commercial and public good outcomes, and achieve long-term social impact.

To ensure that this theory becomes practice, we then incorporated it into the organisation's annual delivery plan, milestones, and staff KPIs.

Now that the leadership team have a clear vision for the role which social impact plays in their business, I continue to support with:

Creating an impact framework

Circl's first of its kind Leadership Development Programme takes professionals from the UK’s most exciting businesses and provides them with coaching skills training alongside young adults from underrepresented backgrounds.

It's a business model which places social impact on equal footing alongside commercial success, making it vital to clearly understand what impact is being created, for who, and how.

I began working with Circl during their first year of operations, providing the opportunity to integrate impact management from the very beginning. Working closely with co-founder Charlie, and his small - but rapidly growing - team, we identified and prioritised the organsiation's impact goals.

With these in mind, I created a measurement framework and helped build it in to the digital learning experience. The framework gives the team immediate access to data about the effectiveness of their programme, enabling them to make continual improvements, and demonstrate its value to corporate clients.

I continue to work with Programme Manager, Luxsiya, to apply and iterate the framework, and build her capacity to lead on Cirlc's impact management.

Mentoring impact-driven founders

As a Business Mentor for the School for Social Entrepreneurs, I've been supporting Fellows on a 1:1 basis since 2019.

Working with each Fellow for 6-12 months, we set and work towards the goals which will help take their organisations to the next level.

In 2021 I've been working with Jo Ashbridge, Founder of architecture charity, AzuKo, and Chair of the Small International Development Charity Network (SIDCN) - supporting her as she balances the needs of each organisation through the disruption of a global pandemic.

Last year I worked with Joanna Bevan, Founder of pop-up language cafe, Speak Street, helping to develop policies and processes to enable her to grow the team and apply greater focus to Speak Street's strategic development.

Impact management training

The Social Tech Trust is the UK's leading supporter of socially motivated tech. In partnership with Microsoft UK and Microsoft for Startups, they run the AI for Social Impact accelerator programme.

In 2021 the programme is supporting 13 start-ups using AI to help transform the UK’s health, manufacturing and resource sectors and I was invited to lead on the the impact management strand of the curriculum.

I'm designing and delivering a series of workshops and 1:1 sessions, to build participants' understanding and application of impact management - sharing principles and tools on topics from setting impact goals, to collecting and using impact data, and learning from the experiences of start-ups further along on their journeys.

Natalie Tucker, Founder

I started Fledge in 2019, after 12 years driving positive social impact across businesses, charities and social enterprises. I love working with others who are motivated by social change, particularly small and fledgling businesses - hence the name!

Supporting philanthropists to develop strategic approaches to giving during the early years of my career with the Charities Aid Foundation, and later at the Institute for Philanthropy, gave me a solid foundation in understanding systems and social change.

Then, as a Senior Manager at Three Hands, I headed up the delivery of mutually beneficial projects for corporates working in partnership with charities, schools, and social enterprises, focusing on the difference which businesses make to society.

Whilst I saw that philanthropists and established businesses can do a great deal of good, I grew increasingly excited about the potential of a new breed of ambitious impact-driven start-ups. This led me to the Social Tech Trust, where I helped tech for good start-ups embed "impact management" into their strategies and operations.

At the start of 2021 I took the leap to focus full-time on Fledge, because working closely with founding teams, to make social impact core to their businesses as they grow, is where I believe I can influence the greatest social impact.

I hold an MSc in Anthropology & Development from LSE, a MOE Foundation coaching certification (recognised by the Association for Coaching), and am an active member of the She Leads Change community. I also teach and mentor on a number of university entrepreneurship programmes.

A social entrepreneur at heart, I commit at least 10% of my consultancy on a pro bono basis - including as a Development Board Member of community charity Nova New Opportunities, and an Advisor to impact startup Prosperah. I particularly enjoy supporting entrepreneurial young people from diverse backgrounds to achieve their ambitions.
