Helping purpose-driven teams thrive

I believe the most successful organisations balance meaningful social impact with financial sustainability, and I work alongside founders and leadership teams to achieve both in tandem.

Natalie Tucker

I started Fledge in 2019, after 12 years driving positive social impact across businesses, charities and social enterprises. I love working with others who are driven to achieve social change, particularly small and fledgling businesses - hence the name!

Supporting philanthropists to develop strategic approaches to giving during the early years of my career, with the Charities Aid Foundation and the Institute for Philanthropy, gave me a solid foundation in understanding systems and social change.

Then, as a Senior Manager at Three Hands, I headed up the delivery of mutually beneficial projects for corporates working in partnership with charities, schools, and social enterprises, focusing on businesses' potential for social impact.

This led to my Churchill Fellowship award to visit the USA and Colombia in 2017 and research the benefits to businesses of partnering with social purpose organisations, interviewing over 70 impact-driven professionals.

More recently, I worked at the Social Tech Trust, the UK's leading supporter of socially motivated technology initiatives, where I helped tech for good start-ups embed "impact management" into their strategies and operations.

A social entrepreneur at heart, I commit 10% of my consulting and coaching time on a pro bono basis, and particularly enjoy supporting young people from diverse backgrounds to achieve their goals.

"Natalie's reliable and competent engagement and delivery has won over all of the Agrimetrics Executive Team, who have developed a high level of trust in her. She quickly understood our business, introduced new concepts and tools, and guided the strands of activity skilfully to make sure we produced a high quality result." Benjamin Turner, COO, Agrimetrics

Recent projects

Agrimetrics aims to catalyse the UK agrifood sector through the power of big data and advanced analytics.

The team invited me to help refine the organisation's social purpose. We began with a workshop for the Executive Team to develop a "Theory of Change" that balances the need for commercial sustainability with the creation of public good.

To ensure that this theory becomes practice, we then incorporated it into the company's delivery plan and KPIs. I continue to support with embedding the Theory of Change and developing an approach to measuring impact.

Circl is a coaching training company that provides leadership development for professionals, alongside "Future Leaders" from diverse backgrounds.

I joined co-founder Charlie in Spring 2019 to develop internal systems & operations and recruit new team members. My role ranged from supporting with programme design, to shaping job descriptions and sourcing and managing tech support.

With a team in place by the end of the year, my support shifted to the development of an impact framework. I continue to work closely Programme Manager, Luxsiya, to apply the framework, create reports and build an impact-driven mindset internally.

Social Tech Trust works to equip tech-for-good startups for achieving commercial success and social impact at scale.

I developed a series of workshop to build the "impact management" knowledge and skills of startup teams, which I deliver on accelerator programmes run in partnership between Social Tech Trust and organisations such as Microsoft and the Aspect Social Sciences Network.

I also provide tailored support and feedback through 1:1 sessions, to help teams develop their own approaches to measuring and maximising social impact.

"I'd recommend Natalie to any impact-led organisation due to her impact management skills and knowledge base. But also to any project team in any company that needs a calm and measured approach to getting things done. Even though Natalie is not a full-time member of the team, it feels like she is. She has a warm and engaging personality and clearly cares about what we're doing." Charlie Stainforth, Co-Founder & CEO, Circl

Coaching & mentoring

I've always found a coaching approach to be hugely valuable for helping my clients to clarify and realise their visions. In 2020 I trained with the MOE Foundation and gained an Association for Coaching accredited certification.

Alongside this, I mentor on a number of programmes that support people to set up and lead purpose-driven enterprises. I especially enjoy supporting founders overcome challenges and achieve their ambitions on a 1:1 basis.

"I worked with Natalie to help improve the strategy, business planning and policies of my social enterprise. She was able to provide really bespoke support across a wide range of topics. Natalie was relatable and experienced and helped source creative solutions." Joanna Bevan, Founder, Speak Street

Recent coaching & mentoring

As a Business Mentor for the School for Social Entrepreneurs, I support Fellows on a 1:1 basis over 6-12 months.

In 2019/20 I worked with Joanna Bevan, Founder of pop-up language cafe, Speak Street. We worked together to develop policies and processes to enable Joanna to grow the Speak Street team and apply more of her time and attention to the organisation's strategic development.

The Collective London Accelerator supports pioneering social entrepreneurs.

They invited me to work with several founders on the programme to build their understanding and confidence in partnering with corporates through one-off coaching sessions.

We explored areas from engaging with professional volunteers, to tapping into supply chains and helping businesses to become more inclusive employers.

The Creative Enterprise Centre at the University of Westminster supports students and graduates building start-ups. Mentors support founders on their programmes for 1-2 years.

I am currently working with founders of an online activity booking platform, and of a wearable assistive tech company, to help them set and achieve goals to establish and grow impact-driven businesses.
